Upper Riverside, Greenwich Peninsula, London SE10

After more than 20 years of transformative urban interventions, Greenwich Peninsula is emerging as a vibrant south-east London waterfront district and a contemporary lifestyle destination. This is where Londoners find work, varied property types to live in, welcoming public spaces to interact, and inspiring places to create and play.

The O2 (AKA Millennium Dome built in 2000) is still the most striking building in Greenwich Peninsula, but there is competition now from an array of bold, high-rise cutting-edge waterfront architecture such as the Upper Riverside development and the wonderfully colourful public realms of Peninsula Square and the Design District.

No. 5 Upper Riverside

Upper Riverside by Knight Dragon is the most significant, recently completed residential development on Greenwich Peninsula or North Greenwich as the area is also known. It comprises five glittering riverside towers rounding off the north-east section of the peninsula’s waterfront.

No. 5 is the tallest building and the final piece of this luxury project, which has already set a high standard for future neighbouring developments in the district. The tower is 104m in height, has 30 storeys with over 160 luxury apartments from studios to penthouses.

No. 5 offers sizeable open-plan, urban lifestyle interiors flooded with natural light and a majority are with a balcony or terrace. Each property features floor-to-ceiling windows with far-reaching river views, underfloor heating, engineered stained oak flooring, custom cabinetry and tiling, high quality integrated appliances and stylish fixtures and fittings feature in all properties.

Amenities within No. 5 are a concierge, residents’ cinema, games room, and the Upper Riverside trademark Thames-facing cascading terraces. Residency at No. 5, offers access to Tom Dixon’s designed The Club, a wellness heaven set in No. 2 Upper Riverside. The Club has various meeting and co-working areas, dining rooms, a roof bar, river-facing terrace, a library, cinema and a wellness space with a swimming pool, gym and a steam room.

Fitting in the master plan of five glitzy, glass-clad cascading towers created by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill architects, No. 5 Upper Riverside has its own unique identity given by Dara Huang & DH Liberty interior design team. The Thames and the surrounding environment with an eco-park provided inspiration for this team when designing the communal area and penthouses. As a way of balancing the strict geometric shape of the building, there is a cosy lobby with clay earth walls, curves, and organic forms. Penthouse interiors feature fluted luxury marble tiles and brushed stainless steel.

Stepping outside Upper Riverside buildings, one is surrounded by lively, perfectly formed public spaces and parks. There is the Tide, an elevated linear trail with permanent art from Damien Hirst, Allen Jones, and Morag Myerscough. The Riverfront is a half-a-mile, beautifully landscaped promenade for a close encounter with the river and work of the renowned contemporary artist Anthony Gormley.

For food, drink, designer brands and entertainment there is The O2. The venue is home to a shopping outlet as well as a variety of restaurants, bars, and cafes catering to every taste.  The O2 hosts over 200 various events every year.

North Greenwich (Zone 2) is the nearest London Underground station (0.3 mi) to No. 5 Upper Riverside. Designed by Alsop Architects, it opened in May 1999 as part of the Jubilee Line extension. Train journeys to Canary Wharf take just 2 minutes, and to Westminster approx. 13 minutes.

Adjacent to the Tube is the bus station with services to Central London, Lewisham, Greenwich, Bexleyheath, Deptford, Kidbrooke and Woolwich.

For a scenic river shuttle, Thames Clipper runs boat services from the North Greenwich Pier.

For a thrilling bird’s-eye view of the peninsula, glorious sunrises and sunsets while traveling above the river, there is the Cable Car which connects Greenwich Peninsula and the Royal Dock.
