Canary Wharf residential, London E14

The Canary Wharf skyline is defined by the iconic E14 cluster as well as by a record number of new, recently added tall residential and commercial buildings anchored in the prime waterside locations which, until recently, were void of any structure. Initially transformed by finance, Canary Wharf is now re-branding as a “place to live and work” by providing for the modern residential waterfront lifestyle millennials are looking for. While waiting for the Crossrail to arrive and enhance the already sleek DLR and Jubilee line transport services, E14 is glamming up with attractive public art exhibitions & events as well as with new and stylish bars, restaurants and retail opportunities. By the year 2020/22 Canary Wharf will have an impressive variety of high-end apartments ready to rent or buy.

Here is the summary of E14 buildings delivering contemporary 21st century housing. The majority is still under construction and will be completing in the next few years.

At the western end of the Canary Wharf Estate is an impressive cluster of new, tall buildings that will soon define Canary Wharf. Overlooking the Thames and the Middle Dock is Newfoundland (Horden Cherry Lee Architects). Also known as the Diamond Tower, this mixed-use development will rise to 60 floors (220m). Landmark Pinnacle (Squire and Partners) forms the same new cluster. Anchored at the head of Canary Wharf’s South Dock, this tower will rise to 75 floors comprising over 752 apartments with uninterrupted, 360 degrees panoramic views of London.

The two residential towers of Wardian (Glenn Howells Architects ) are located on Marsh Wall and will reach to 55 and 50 storeys respectfully. There will be approx. 764-apartment suites with wrap-around balconies and restaurants, shops, a rooftop sky lounge and a 25-metre open-air swimming pool.

Further along Marsh Wall are the 68-storey South Quay Plaza (Foster & Partners) rising to 56 floors with approx. 880 apartments, and The Madison tower (Make Architects) with over 400 residential units which is expected to complete in 2020.

Across the dock is Wood Wharf, a large new district developed by the Canary Wharf Estate. Two towers with 828 homes form the first phase of the development: 10 Park Drive has 345 new homes and is completing later this year. The second tower is the distinctive One Park Drive (Make Architects) which completes in 2020. There will be parks, landscaped gardens, state of the art health and fitness clubs fitted with a swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and a fitness class studio.

Next door to the Museum of Docklands, on Hertsmere Road, Greenland Group and HOK architects are building Spire London. There will be approx. 861 apartments with outstanding onsite facilities including a residential club, roof garden, concierge, a private cinema room, residents’ sky bar, gym, pool and a spa. When finished, the Spire London will be the western Europe’s tallest residential tower.

Adding to Canary Wharf’s new residential credentials is the recently announced plan for a luxury “co-living” E14 development. The Collective in Canary Wharf will have 705 rooms in a 21-storey block, making it the world’s biggest co-living scheme.

Rental growth in Canary Wharf continues to outperform the City of London as E14 continues to add new build stock to the market fit for a new generation of finance and insurance service employees. International students love the high standard of accommodation and state of the art facilities available in Canary Wharf plus the district’s superb connections with central London.
